La Mano

"En el idioma egipcio el término que designaba la mano se relacionó con 'pilar' (soporte, fuerza) y con 'palma'. Las posiciones de las manos sobre el cuerpo y las disposiciones de los dedos corresponden, según el esoterismo, a nociones precisas. En el sistema jeroglífico egipcio la mano significa el principio manifestado, la acción, la donación, la labor.

La asociación del ojo y la mano, como en algunos seres míticos orientales simboliza 'acción clarividente'. Schneider concede a la mano un papel extraordinario 'por ser la manifestación corporal del estado interior del ser humano pues ella indica la actitud del espíritu cuando éste no se manifiesta por la vía acústica (gesto)'. De ello se deduce que la mano elevada es el símbolo de la voz y el canto. Igual que en China, en Egipto el símbolo gráfico de cantar es un brazo.

La mano colocada sobre el pecho indica la actitud del sabio, en el cuello señala la posición del sacrificio. La mano sobre los ojos, clarividencia en el instante de morir.

Es muy importante el hecho de que la mano tenga cinco dedos; de un lado por su analogía general con la figura humana (de cuatro extremidades más la cabeza); de otro lado por su asimilación al sentido simbólico del 5 (amor, salud, humanidad). La mano abierta, en jeroglífico egipcio, significa cualquier tarea específicamente humana y también fuerza magnética. Esta creencia se encuentra también en la América precolombina. Y sentido muy parecido determina su abundantísimo empleo como amuleto en el área de la cultura islámica. Para el pensamiento beréber, la mano significa protección, autoridad, poder y fuerza. Lo mismo entre los romanos. La manus simbolizaba la autoridad del pater familias y la del emperador; por ello aparece rematando algunos signa de las legiones en vez del águila. 

En los amuletos precitados, la mano sufre modificaciones o se asocia, como en los emblemas del occidente cristiano, a otros símbolos (estrella, paloma, pájaro, abanico, zigzag, círculo, etc). "

"En muchas alegorías y emblemas aparece la figura del delfín, a veces duplicada. Cuando los dos delfines, o bien figuras de peces indeterminados, se hallan en la misma dirección, la duplicidad puede tener un valor dictado por la ley de simetría bilateral, por necesidad ornamental o simbolizando, simplemente, el equilibrio de fuerzas iguales. Tenían también los antiguos la idea de que el delfín era el más veloz de los animales marinos y por ello, en los emblemas de Francesco Colonna, cuando aparece enroscado a un áncora, significa detención de la velocidad, es decir, prudencia."
